How Long is the Digestive Tract?

The human digestive tract is about 30 feet (9 meters) long when taken from a cadaver. However, the digestive tract, also called gastrointestinal (GI) tract or alimentary canal, is much shorter in live humans because the muscles in the walls of the GI tract are in a state of sustained contraction.
