Why Don't You Get Drunk Easily When Eating Fatty Foods?

You might have noticed that when you drink alcohol combined with high-fatty foods, you tend to to not get intoxicated easily. This can be explained with the physiological actions of the stomach.

Some of the consumed alcohol is absorbed in the stomach. However, the surface area for absorption is much lesser in the stomach than in the small intestine. The small intestine is where most absorption of nutrients and other substances occur including alcohol.

The faster that stomach contents (in this case alcohol) travel to the small intestine, the faster that your going to be intoxicated.

Fatty foods tend to stay longer in the stomach than other foods because they eventually stimulate slowing down of stomach emptying into the small intestine. So, theoretically, this could explain why people who eat high fat foods when drinking alcohol tend to not get intoxicated as fast as those who do not combine it with eating fat foods. This, however, would mean that you're likely going to drink more as you don't get drunk easily.

Remember! Eating too much fatty foods and drinking alcohol are not good for the body. This is for information purposes only and does not mean that you should go drink alcohol and eat fatty foods. This article was made to feed your hungry minds only.
